2009 Mapema Sauvignon Blanc (Mendoza) – Sauvignon Blanc grape
There is little Sauvignon Blanc coming out of Argentina but Mapema’s 2009 Sauvignon Blanc is a fine one by any standard. The wine was aged predominantly in stainless steel but 10% of the wine was aged in new French oak for 3 months. It offers up an excellent bouquet of fresh herbs, citrus, and floral aromas leading to a spicy, savory, concentrated Sauvignon with impeccable balance and plenty of length. Rated 89 The Wine Advocate
2008 Ave Torrontes (Mendoza) – Torrontes grape
“Pale yellow. Floral aromas of melon, mango, jasmine and rose petal. Juicy, clean, dry and on the lean side, with ripe acidity carrying the flavors of this subtle, understated wine. Finishes with enticing aromatic character.” Rated 88 Points Stephen Tanzer – International Wine Cellar
2008 Susana Balbo Signature Malbec (Mendoza) – Malbec grape
Purple-colored, the nose offers up toasty oak, cinnamon, allspice, and black cherry. Medium- to full-bodied, it has excellent depth and grip, savory flavors, and enough fine-grained tannin to evolve for 2-3 years. It, too, can be enjoyed from 2011 to 2017. The Susana Balbo wines are the top barrel selections from her overall production. Rated 91 The Wine Advocate
2009 Noble Malbec Aconcagua (Mendoza) – Malbec grape
Dark ruby red; black fruit aromas, licorice, good volume, some structure, tasty. Rated 89 The Wine Advocate
2010 Agua de Piedra Malbec Gran Reserva (Mendoza) – Malbec grape
“Pours an inky purple, with aromas of plums and red and black berries. Delivers an intense wallop of rich berry fruit on the entrance. Finishes strong and smooth with root spices and a hint of earthiness. The tannins are enrobed in rich, creamy fruit, and add a lingering silkiness to the wine. Fabulous concentration for a wine of this price!” Winery
2003 Ernesto Catena Selection Syrah Siesta en Tahuantinsuyu (Mendoza) – Syrah/Shiraz grape
“Rich and enticing, with warm fig, melted licorice, dark toast and sweet plum sauce flavors that glide over rich but fine-grained tannins. Round and juicy through the dark finish. A hedonist’s delight. Rated 90 Wine Spectator
2007 Bodegas Nieto Senetiner Don Nicanor (Mendoza) – blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec & Merlot grapes
“This classic Mendocino blend of cabernet, malbec and merlot delivers tremendous ripeness. The flavors of black cherries fill the mouth with their juicy warmth while the tannins are still youthful and untamed. Give it time or a rare steak.” Rated 90 Wine & Spirits
